griffintechnology.com (2008)
This is the 2008 design refresh of griffintechnology.com.

An incremental build upon the last version — we kept the same data structure & backend, and I took the lessons learned from our first Rails site to enact a number of improvements here and there. I’ll try to give you a glimpse without going into too much detail.

Most obvious is the reversing of the main page area — for readability, to lighten the visual weight of the site a bit, and to coincide with our newer styles of packaging. Submenu layout was made more consistent throughout the site, disposing of the right-hand column.

I rebuilt the CSS grid system to handle a 3-column layout when needed, in addition to the existing 8-column layout. This allowed for tech specs to be displayed more prominently on the product page, for example.

The “drawer” system — a longstanding feature of the site — was rebuilt to be more clearly defined with lightbox-style visuals, and we added the ability to search locally for a retailer that might carry the product.

The cart and checkout were heavily rebuilt, with the checkout turning into a simple 3-step affair which further increased checkout completion rates.

This is more or less the current Griffin Technology Dot Com site design; feel free to visit and browse the rest of the site. Of course, websites are never static; we’re always thinking up where to take it next.
